JP191 C Shortreach Bassoon

The JP191 has been described as "the perfect student bassoon" and is an excellent choice for younger players or those with smaller hands due to its unique 'shortreach' mechanism. Designed especially with the aim of ensuring a smooth learning experience for players of all ages, the JP191 builds on the ethos of JP to encourage the use of rarer instruments. With an impressive intonation and quality of tone, the JP191 performs far better than many others in the same price bracket. As recommended by Lyndon Hilling (Bassoon Specialist & Head of Woodwind, Northamptonshire Music Service), the JP191 features "an open hole at the top making them an ideal stepping stone for moving on to a full-sized instrument later". The JP191 is a reliable and durable student bassoon and features a strong silver plated keywork mechanism increasing the instrument's longevity and reducing the need for regular services. Constructed from a maple body and finished in a clear lacquer, the instrument has a rich and warm sound. To increase playing comfort and ease of progress, an adjustable playing spike and balancing arm is included as standard.

Customer Reviews

  • Author: Mr Lyndon Hilling – Former Bassoon Specialist & Head of Woodwind, Northamptonshire Music Service
"Having tested the new John Packer short-reach bassoon, I was delighted by its design, intonation and quality of tone - so much so that I immediately ordered 10 for use in Primary schools in Northants. Having an open hole at the top makes them an ideal stepping stone for moving on to a full-sized instrument later. The keywork is well designed, lies comfortably under a small hand and appears to be robustly constructed. They are free blowing and produce a tone comparable with instruments costing twice as much."
