JP332 RATH Bb/F Trombone

The JP332 RATH represents John Packer's flagship Bb/F large bore tenor trombone designed and manufactured in collaboration with Michael Rath, one of the UK's leading trombone specialists. With an unparallelled level of craftsmanship, the JP332 RATH is the result of many years of development and features some exclusive components that players won't find on other instruments. A custom designed Rath leadpipe was created especially for the JP332 RATH which gives excellent response in all registers whilst retaining support for inexperienced players. The instrument also features an ergonomic thumb lever which is easy to adjust for smaller hands. The closed-wrap design and counterweight ensure optimum balance and enable younger players to retain good posture beyond 4th position.

The JP RATH range of trombones have generated a lot of positive comments throughout the industry and are now in demand across the globe. They are characterised by a professional standard of workmanship and a high level of performance. Often compared with professional models, they compare very favorably with instrument from some of the top makers. The JP332 RATH features a large bore (.547") providing players power and projection in symphonic works whilst it's 8.5" bell gives even greater sound projection that it's smaller brother, the JP331 RATH. High Grade 80:20 brass is used in construction throughout.

"...As a large bore Bb/F instrument, this trombone finds itself up against stiff competition from all quarters of the industry. It's slap bang in the middle of Conn 88h and Bach 42 territory, and I have to say that even in this company it’s no slouch at all. The playing characteristic is full and mellow, and the heavy bell centres the sound. Production feels easy through the registers; the trigger functions well and has a fast action that helps with production of the low Ds, and Cs. The valve cap, which is a little heavier than a standard one, also helps to centre the notes on the F side. It's quality of build and playing characteristics are those of an instrument that would cost far more. For the money, this is without doubt one of the finest instruments on the market. "

"The large bore version (0.547) of the JP331 RATH offers an ideal alternative for a student who really wants an instrument that can be exploited to its limits.

As with the JP331 RATH, it comes with fully adjustable trigger mechanism, compact closed wrap design, razor sharp trigger, slick slide action and high-class build quality.

In addition it produces a lovely rich, well-centred tonality, a dark plumby sound and super intonation in both Bb and F guises throughout the range.

There is a maturity about this instrument that rewards a serious minded player – and it was hard to find the tiniest of faults with it, especially as the build quality and the finish is so good.

For the serious college student in particular it provides everything they need, and comes at a price that is hard to beat too."
