  • Author: Ewan Easton - Tuba - Halle Orchestra
“The finish is excellent throughout the range and there is a very well planned and executed progression in quality and responsiveness from entry to professional level.” Grenville Moore from John Packer Ltd met up with Ewan Easton from the Halle to review the John Packer range of tubas. “99% of players could not out perform this instrument.” Ewan praised the build quality, high quality valves with a good hand position, the responsiveness, and the pedal range. “Everything works on this instrument. It has a full range with a singing quality. The notes are easy to centre, it’s easy to play. The effective compensating system aids excellent tuning.”
  • Author: Wilfred Driscoll - Tuba - Freelance musician with Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and London Sym
“The sound is big and round while still retaining control over clarity and articulation, especially in the higher register. The instrument felt at home in both the lighter and heavier orchestral repertoire and is an excellent all-rounder. It is very clear to see that the John Packer makers, along with Paul Riggett of Sterling musical instruments, have spent a great deal of time dealing with the traditional problems of these instruments and have come up with fantastic solutions. Anyone looking to buy a bass should take a serious look at this range as the quality and price are very hard to beat.”
  • Author: Nigel Seaton - Principal bass player for Christchurch Symphony Orchestra
“The quality finish and setup of the new JP377 Sterling EEb tuba is second to none. The sound is big and round and intonation is easily controlled at all dynamics and in all registers. The valves are great - well machined, and with a quick action. The Tuba blends nicely in both the lighter and heavier orchestral repertoire. When playing with the Woolston team, the Sterling EEb Tuba blends smoothly and easily produces the solid platform required by the band”.
