The JP236 alto trombone is the perfect starter for orchestral musicians to start exploring the world of alto trombone playing. Some will say that it is the perfect starter model to train players to use all 7 trombone slide positions, although I would suggest talking to a teacher before choosing this as a beginner trombone, due to being in the key of Eb. The JP236 Rath Eb Alto Trombone follows in the footsteps of previous JP Rath instruments which pushed the boundaries of what was thought possible in the development of student friendly instruments. Designed in collaboration with Michael Rath, one of the UK's finest trombone designers and manufacturers, The JP236 Rath is lightweight, free blowing and consistent across all registers, a hurdle which most lower priced alto trombones fall at.
The JP236 Rath Eb Alto Trombone is constructed from high grade 80:20 brass throughout and features a .481" bore ensuring it is free-blowing across the whole register. It also features a 7" bell enabling greater sound projection. An exclusively designed Rath leadpipe delivers professional level sound and the instrument's exceptional build quality is sure to inspire students to develop their playing further.
This is simply Amazing. I own a Conn 36H and that is well worth the money I spent on it. Obviously, this is not as good as a 36H, but at about a 6th of the price its worth it. Its lightweight, it blows beautifully, it's as good as Yamaha Altos and it is an absolute steal. I would recommend this over the 136 any day, the case and bits are great. It's absolutely worth it, and I would be happy to buy more JP Rath products in the future !!!
The JP236 RATH Alto Trombone is a mid-range trombone, which provides a credible alternative to professional alto trombones. The main positive is the sound quality of the instrument, which is consistent across all registers, particularly the low registers that have a tendency to be quirky on many alto trombones. This is definitely a quality instrument for the price.
The JP236 Rath Eb Alto Trombone is supplied with a JP606 mouthpiece and JP859 Pro Alto Trombone Case. With a rigid yet lightweight fibreglass construction, the JP859 Pro offers maximum protection whilst maintaining ease of use and an ergonomic design.

Having met and formed whilst studying at Royal Northern College of Music, Steve Jones, Paul Exton--McGuiness, Matt Denney and Nick Birch formed Slidin About in 2008 and have since compiled a diverse and flexible range of repertoire encompassing every genre of music. With extensive experience and expert knowledge of a wide range of trombones, they shared their thoughts on the JP236Rath Alto, JP230Rath, JP233Rath Bass, JP331Rath and JP332Rath. This range of JP Rath trombones represent a sharing of ideas, designs and ethos between John Packer Ltd and world renowned trombone specialist Michael Rath. Through a shared passion for manufacturing a better trombone at an affordable price the JP Rath Range has been designed with quality and affordability in mind.
